Barnes & Noble bring Nook e-reader to the UK

Barnes & Noble have today announced plans to expand their Nook e-reader service to the UK, marking their first venture outside of the United States. The company will be launching their ‘Nook Simple Touch’ and ‘Simple Touch with glow light’ e-readers in the UK before the holiday season. Retailers of the products are yet to be announced.

A UK version of the Nook online store will also be launched at nook.co.uk.

The Nook e-reader has rescued Barnes & Noble from an inevitable decline in the US as traditional books become less and less popular, and e-books see massive growth, perfectly illustrated by HMV’s sale of UK book store chain Waterstones last year, and the huge success of similar e-book services such as Amazon’s Kindle.
