Control Your Lights From Your Smartphone with LIFX

Going round your house making sure all the lights are off before heading out is something we’ve all done, but LIFX is about to make that a hell of a lot easier.

LIFX is a WiFi enabled, multi-color, energy efficient LED light bulb that you control with your iPhone or Android. And it’s as easy as can be to install; just pop it in your light fitting like any ordinary bulb! Once done, you can open the LIFX app on your smartphone and get controlling. Wherever you are, you can control all the LIFX bulbs in your house, and what’s more, the bulbs themselves last up to 25 years.

You can make your lights fade/dim, switch on and off based on where you are or the time of day, have coloured mood lighting controlled by your music, and so much more. How does it work? Simple. All your bulbs connect to your wifi network, and then any phone connected to your WiFi network can control your LIFX lightbulbs using the app. Insecure? Not really. Providing you’ve decent security on your WiFi network, there’s no chance of outsiders controlling your lights. It could prove interesting at house parties, though..

You can find out more about LIFX and help fund the successful launch of the end product on their Kickstarter page. We rather like LIFX, but if you’ve thoughts of your own or perhaps want to let us know about another exciting project, please do comment below. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
