Talented startups to face tech ‘dragons’ at Google Campus
This Wednesday, January 16th, the UK’s brightest tech startups will be pitching for investment from more than 100 angel investors and venture capitalists at Google Campus in Shoreditch.
These startups have just completed a 13-week boot camp where they receive mentoring from the likes of Amazon, PayPal and Google to transform their bright ideas into investor-ready businesses
This boot camp, named Oxygen Accelerator, was founded last year by Mark Hales, who worked previously with Seedcamp. He is one of the UK’s most prolific investors in startups, having put over £850,000 of his own cash into new firms over the last two years.
Hales commented that “These are some of the most promising young businesses in Britain today. The accelerator process is incredibly intensive, but helps set a really solid foundation for the firms. The corporate structure and financial business plan is in a shape which investors will recognise and be comfortable with, as well as ensuring any intellectual property is protected. It is also a very nurturing process thanks to the 100-plus mentors who spend time helping the teams polish their ideas.”
“From an investor’s point of view, putting money into an accelerator fund like Oxygen is a savvy move. The companies are based in a diverse range of sectors – everything from big data analysis for website building through to disruptive consumer technologies for the automotive industry. It means that angels or VCs can spread their investment via a portfolio of companies, all of which have the potential for high growth.”
“Alternatively, if they think they have spotted ‘the next Facebook’ then there’s the opportunity to invest directly into that particular company.”
Investors from ProFounders, Balderton, Octopus Ventures, FIG and London Business Angels will all be attending the demo day event. Limited places are still available for investors to attend. To request a place, register at http://oxygendemoday.eventbrite.com/
From 1st February applications are being accepted for the next round of Oxygen Accelerator. Teams with a great business idea can apply at http://www.oxygenaccelerator.com/
